Our Story

The first time Shannon and Wilson met was  December 5th, 2014 on a spiral staircase at 353 Grove St in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Their bands were sharing a bill at a basement show hosted by Wilson’s brother, Harry. The brothers were playing in Napoleon and Shannon was in Teen Body.

It rocked. 🤘

“She was lugging her amp down this skinny spiral staircase to the basement and I was very much in her way. The band was a cool and sweet unit and I tried not to hover as they set up. I was new to the city and two years younger so it was very hard not to stare at this hot older hipster.”

“My first impression of Wilson was that he was the archetype of a really hot and cool New York indie band guy—not my type! I also thought he was a great bassist.”
—Shannon

Over the next several years, their paths crossed time and time again, from warehouse shows to the Catskills to llama parties at prop houses. Even a cookout in the Lee’s backyard where Wilson “accidentally” left his sweater.

But it was a chance encounter in the winter of 2016 at the Canal St Pies n’ Thighs that a friendship first sparked. There at the counter, over free fried chicken and a milkshake provided by their mutual friend Lauren, Wilson and Shannon had a purely accidental first non-date date.

On November 6th, 2016, after seeing each other for a summer, Wilson asked Shannon if he could walk with her to her car after lunch. On that walk he told her how much he cared for her and that he would like to go steady. She agreed.

“We were still trying to figure out what was happening between us and hadn’t seen each other for a week. That week felt like a year and my heart was aching. I’d never met anyone like Shannon and it felt special to be in such pain over her. I knew the greater pain would be to let the friendship go on without expressing these feelings and that gave me the confidence I needed to tell her how I felt.”
—Wilson

“If I remember correctly, he said something like, ‘it’s ok if you don’t feel the same way. I just wanted you to know how i feel about you.’ I was so moved by his sincerity! It’s quite rare for someone to share their feelings for you so plainly and without expectation. That continues to speak volumes to the kind of person Wilson is.”

By June, Wilson moved in with Shannon to help take care of her parent’s home and hang out with Sunny, the old family dog. The following years saw the germination of their lives together, nurtured through nature, music, art, friends, traveling, and lots of great meals.

They sent gifts to each other on tour, participated in family cooking competitions, celebrated dog birthdays, birthed a demon baby at a murder mystery party, spent summers on Cape Cod, adventured through mossy woods, filmed music videos, made some beautiful things and some silly things, harvested pears and jujubes from the backyard, went on mid-pandemic cross-country road trips, and supported one another through uncertainty and loss.

Maybe most importantly, they adopted a shy, funny-shaped dog they named Otis.

In the summer of 2023, they helped sell the Lee family house and decided to move up to Kingston, NY. Despite being anxious about being so far from their friends in NYC, they quickly found themselves feeling right at home within the wonderful communities of the Hudson Valley, surrounded by nature and close to Wilson’s parents in nearby Woodstock.

On August 23rd, 2024, Wilson took Shannon to the top of her parent’s hillside property in Hobart, NY—a place where they spent many off-the-grid hours dreaming.

After spending two days constructing a wooden gateway together, Wilson got down on one knee and proposed with a temporary ring made of poplar. Shannon followed suit with a ring made out of plant roots.
